Daily Recap
Texas AG Commissioner Sid Miller (R) said that he believes that if medical cannabis reforms were to get votes in the state legislature, they would be supported by “70% to 80%” of lawmakers because “we have such good science on it.”
“When we started, we thought, ‘Well, that’ll lead to recreational use or more drug use,’ but it’s not. It’s a plant derivative.” he said, before talking more truth: “Look, medical marijuana is not nearly as addictive as some of the prescription drugs we use now. Hydrocodone, Oxy, Fentanyl, you know, all the narcotics that we prescribe. This is a plant-based drug that relieves pain and suffering.”
Maybe he also sees Missouri’s legal marijuana industry, which is rollin’ rollin’ rollin’ after early supply constraints eased. Their legal framework sold more than $715M in cannabis products in the seven months since legal adult-use sales began; just today, they announced the winners of their microbusiness license lottery.
Over in Iowa, which is surrounded by three states with legal cannabis, they continue to get high through other methods, like consumable hemp, in an effort to ease his pain.
Psychoactive hemp products are available where cannabis is banned due to a loophole in federal law. Red State Weed sells across still-prohibitionist states as stores found a way to sell these intoxicating hemp-based products. Not only are they flying off the shelves, they’re not subject to IRC 280E and they’re allowed across (some) state lines.
We discuss these things below as well as other other news, such as: there’s a medical cannabis boom in Australia; Canadian cannabis exports surged 50% to C$160M YoY; a GOP Congressman’s amendment would block The Defense Department from testing military recruits for cannabis; States that legalized medical marijuana saw a 20% drop in foster care cases for parental drug misuse; the former Wrigley-connected cannabis company got gummed up; the Bahamas is looking to establish it’s MMJ industry; self-cultivation and advertising of marijuana will be prohibited in Costa Rica; a new celeb-favored luxury cannabis brand hit NJ; there’s more SIII whispers in the wind and we'll dig deeper into today’s sector price action.
