Daily Recap

A Democratic congresswoman has implored the DEA to “reject any argument” that rescheduling cannabis under federal law would constitute a violation of international treaty obligations.

“Cannabis should be removed from the Controlled Substances Act entirely, however, I acknowledge that the rescheduling of cannabis is a historic first step to addressing the harms of the War on Drugs, which is why I want to ensure that U.S. Treaties are not considered as a potential reason against rescheduling or de-scheduling marijuana.”

Slumdog Millionaire

Amid pressure to clamp down on New York’s thriving illicit market, new rules were introduced last year allowing regulators to impose fines of $10K each day a cannabis business operated without a license, rising to $20K for a second or more offense.

Thus far, according to official records, regulators have collected a total sum of $22,500 from unlicensed cannabis shops, despite issuing more than $25 million in fines.

Glass Ceiling

As Florida voters await word on whether they’ll have a chance to legalize recreational marijuana this November, they won’t have to worry about a bill blunting the type of product available.

An effort to cap THC levels for marijuana in a potential recreational market is dead this after not finding space on a Senate Fiscal Policy agenda, which was the final meeting of this legislative session.

Like a Virgin

The British Virgin Island’s Cannabis Bill has been stuck at the Governor’s Office since 2020 because the UK has had issues with it—but the BVI Premier now believes that their laws give elected leaders the authority to pass it without the UK’s approval.

“Our laws currently allow us to legalize marijuana w/o seeking the assent of the Governor.”

The Crying Waiting Game

It was another sloppy session in Cannaland as fast money, true to it’s name, rotated back to crypto, or at least that’s what it’s felt like. The uncertainty on the timing of U.S. canna news, coupled with the price action in coins, seems to fit, for now.

Below, we’ll chew through today’s price action, preview Green Thumb’s earnings and review some of what we learned at last night’s U.S cannabis idea dinner in the city.

All that and more, just scroll down.
