Bradford County, Florida Sheriff Gordon Smith, a veteran of nearly four decades in law enforcement, has penned an op-ed urging President Donald Trump to follow through on rescheduling cannabis.

Writing for Inside Sources, Smith said his experience in law enforcement has convinced him the nation’s current approach to cannabis is outdated and counterproductive.

The California Senate approved an Assembly-passed bill to put a pause on a recently enacted tax hike on cannabis products. A week after a Senate Committee cleared the legislation, the full chamber passed it on Wednesday.

Because it was amended, the measure must return to the Assembly for concurrence before it’s potentially sent to the governor’s desk.
