Daily Recap
As we edge into the new year, the U.S. cannabis industry stands at a crossroads. Since the beginning of the first Trump administration, which began with the appointment of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, the industry has come a long way.
However, despite the near universal acceptance of MMJ and the growing acceptance of adult-use cannabis at the state level, federal legalization remains stuck in the mud.
The President-elect has signaled support but as always, timing is everything. Below, we take a closer look at what the sector can expect in the year ahead.
Youth marijuana use declined in 19 out of 21 states that legalized adult-use —with teen cannabis consumption down an average of 35% in the first states to legalize a decade ago—according to government data compiled by a leading advocacy group.
“Legalization does not increase youth cannabis use. In fact, evidence suggests the opposite: by transitioning cannabis sales from the illicit market to a regulated system with age-restricted access, we’ve seen a decrease in youth cannabis use.”
No High Oh
As marijuana legalization took effect in Ohio over the last year, the number of fatal traffic crashes in linked to cannabis fell by 30%, contrary to warnings from those who feared it would lead to more deadly car accidents involving stoned drivers.
That’s according to new data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which found that proportion of impaired drivers suspected to be under the influence of marijuana also declined compared to 2023.
MO Lester
Missouri’s marijuana industry closed out 2024 with a historic December performance, achieving new monthly sales records and solidifying its position as a top market in the United States.
December canna sales reached $131 million, a 2.2% increase from the previous record of $128 million set in November. This marks the highest single-month sales total in Missouri’s cannabis program history.
