Daily Recap
Wisconsin Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard (D), who noted earlier today that her state is “an island of prohibition as 700 miles borders a state with legal cannabis," plans to file a medical marijuana bill this fall. “Here’s the deal folks,” she said, “the most dangerous thing about cannabis is that it’s illegal in Wisconsin.”
Researchers spent 20 times more funding on the potential harms of cannabis rather than on therapeutic benefits. Meanwhile, a new study shows canna is “significantly associated” with the reduced use of unregulated opioids and today, Dedi Meiri, PhD, further explores the role of minor cannabinoids in the treatment of cancer.
[note: if it feels like there’s been coordinated deep-pocket agendas to keep canna in the corner despite the longstanding demonstration of efficacious agility it’s bc there has been; Reefer Madness / ‘this is your brain on drugs’ were government-sponsored propaganda campaigns funded by special interest groups + the politicians they payroll]
Verano (AM) and Green Thumb (PM) highlight tomorrow’s official US canna earnings kick-off and they should set a high bar for those who follow. We’re talking executional abilities translating into efficient operations and optimized results in what’s become a very difficult operating environment, if not an outright war of attrition.
A whopping $19M notional volume traded today ahead of earnings, where we expect pockets of relative strength as even the best-in-breed grind through this trough-y Q2. 2H23 will have the benefit of ~$500M top-line revenues from Maryland alone, along w other contributions and optimizations that should improve select margin profiles.
In other industry news, the Canadian government is owed almost C$200M from failed canna businesses; athletes find that canna is helping them w post-workout recoveries; experts rank alcohol vs. tobacco vs. canna in terms of adverse effects; Punchbowl gave an update on SAFE Banking; the new phonebooks are here and so’s the new BoJo pod; we issue a US Cannabis Earnings Avalanche Alert and walk through what to look for; we chew through the individual performances within the cannabis industry; and we openly wonder why Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) suddenly hates SAFE Banking so much given his state is about to vote adult-use through this November?
