There’s a lot going on out there so if you’re distracted by today’s twitter wars or the wild price action in the market, it’s not your fault that you may have missed this:
U.S CANNABIS LEGISLATION IS INCOMING: THEY’RE FUELING THEIR BIRDS!
How do I know this? A little birdie told me.
And by little birdie, I mean the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Well, he didn’t actually tell me; he told Al Harrington, the former NBA player and current cannapreneur, and on Instagram, no less.
“I decided we should decriminalize [cannabis]. The time has come and there was a lot of old logic. The fact that the federal government said it was as big a crime to have marijuana as to have heroin was ridiculous, just ridiculous; everybody knew that.
So I decided, I was the first leader, of the Democrats or Republicans, to say, “let’s decriminalize, let’s legalize,” and I’m glad I did.
He continued, “Our bill, the bill that I put in— now we’re putting it together with some other bills— it does four things:
it decriminalizes; let’s the states do whatever they want.
it expunges records… it shouldn’t never have been a criminal offense.
it provides tax revenues for minority communities affected by the War on Drugs.”
The conversation took a turn, and Al expressed concerns that “the FDA would come in and a lot of the work we’ve done would no longer be compliant.” Chuck replied:
“We want our legislation be very easy and not do that kind of stuff and we say, “look, we don’t need the FDA puttin’ all kinds of stuff in… and overall we pretty much left things alone to the states so I agree with you: if the FDA came in with a heavy hand, that would undo the whole purpose of our bill, and the new bill we’re putting together with a lot of different supporters, some Republican, we’re gonna make sure that doesn’t happen.”
So there you have it. The bill is being drafted. The walls are coming down.
And U.S Cannabis was on sale. Go figure.
I was fist pumping by the end of that. Thanks for posting these, Todd, they're a real treat.
Beautiful. I'm here for it, Todd. Thanks for highlighting this important declaration from Senate Majority Leader Schumer. Well done by Al Harrington to bring up the FDA concerns for current operators in the sector.
